Comedians are the Modern Poets

Dov Davidoff

To understand Dov Davidoff’s humor you really only need to know two things about this New Jersey native: 1) he grew up in a junkyard and 2) lost his virginity to a prostitute in Mexico at the age of 12. If that doesn’t make you real, I don’t know what does. Comedians are the modern poets, educating us on our lives through humor and Dov Davidoff is one of my favorite poets today.

Here is a clip of Dov talking about the: “Love Drug.” Now I am not saying this is a Shakespearean love sonnet, but it is fucking hysterical.

Here is another perspective Dov has on life: “You know you’re too high when you’re eating cereal naked and your girlfriend says, ‘Put your clothes on,’ and then you realize it’s not your girlfriend, it’s some woman on a bus.”

Dov combines ADD with a sarcastic take on life. He is nervous, compulsive, high strung. If I was a comedian, I would aspire to the heights of Dov. Oh yeah and I would totally go gay for him.

Just as I started this post with comparing the blurring boundaries between comedy and poetry, I leave you with this thought. What is funnier a comedian performing poetry or a poet performing comedy?
