The British Invasion of the Laptop

“Maybe he’s on crystal meth, that stuff makes you crazy, my friend Chloe did it, she nearly shagged her brother. And he’s really ugly.” – Misfits

I wouldn’t pretend to be overtly cultured or a blue blood. Someone who says, “Did you catch the Jasper Johns exhibit at the SF MOMA?” (But did you? It is pretty cool.) However recently all I have been watching is British TV: Misfits, Queer as Folk UK, The Inbetweeners, Skins, Little Britain.

Skins

UK TV: the quotes are hilarious, the accents sexy, and the pop culture references unfamiliar. I am sure British television rots the brain the same way American television does, but it just feels smarter, better, more fun. If American television is crack, then British television is cocaine.

In the spirit of the British invasion of the laptop and streaming programs online, I am sharing my top 10 favorite British shows that I am watching. I realize in writing this that I no longer use the ACTUAL television to watch shows. Shame.

Feel free to send your recommendations. Here is my list, in no particular order.

1) Misfits
2) Skins
3) Luther
4) Merlin
5) Downton Abbey
6) Queer as Folk UK
7) Sherlock
8) Little Britain
9) The Inbetweeners
10) Spooks
