Are you a Harry Potter or a Frodo Baggins?

Potter : Baggins

By this post’s very title it is geek porn, so embrace the inner nerd.

There are two types of leaders in this world: Harry Potters and Frodo Baggins. There are those who seek to have personal triumph (Harry Potter) and those who strive for collective achievement (Frodo Baggins / Fellowship of the Ring). I am not advocating for one over the other, and this is just an observation.

Fantasy epics use the same source material, thus the similarities between the two stories. However, how the heroes go about their mission is distinct. (If you want to learn more about the similarities between the two, check out this post.”)

The main theme of this post is to examine loners and groups and getting people to think about which they are more comfortable residing in. One TED talk, “Where Good Ideas Come From” looks at the arc of human achievement from the liquid networks of London’s coffee shops to Darwin’s solo thoughts on the Theory of Evolution to the high-velocity network of today.

Ideas are just layers of knowledge applied on top of existing ones. What really matters is that ideas, big and small is all around, and knowing yourself and being true to how you succeed is the keystone.

So ask yourself, “Are you a Harry Potter or Frodo Baggins?” And if you were to ask me which am I more of a fan… The Harry Potter Series or Lord of the Rings? I choose The Chronicles of Narnia without question. But that is the topic for a different post.
